Dancing with the Stars (DWTS) Season 30 began with 15 famous faces in the running for the Mirror Ball trophy, but in the end, there can only be one winner. From Week 2 onwards, one couple will leave the competition, waving goodbye to their dancefloor dreams.

The first elimination show took place last night (Monday, September 27) with one couple ultimately leaving the competition for good.

The position of DWTS professional Cheryl Burke and her celebrity partner Cody Rigsby was also revealed to be up in the air after Cheryl was forced to step back from the competition after testing positive for COVID-19.

Newsweek has everything you need to know about the first results show.

Who Was the First Couple Eliminated from 'DTWS'?

The two couples up for elimination in week one were based on the combined judge's scores and the viewer votes from weeks 1 and 2 with the judges—Len Goodman, Derek Hough, Carrie Ann Inaba, and Bruno Tonioli—having the ultimate say in who will leave the competition.

It was Cobra Kai star Martin Kove and Bling Empire's Christine Chiu who themselves in the bottom two of Dancing With the Stars Week 2.

Martin had achieved a score of just 28 out of 80, so his place in the bottom two may not have come as a huge shock to viewers.

On the other hand, Christine found herself in joint 7th place with a score of 50 out of 80. However, as Week 2 proved, the celebrities' high spot in the leaderboard does not always guarantee their safety.

In the end, all four judges voted unanimously to save Christine and her partner Pasha Pashkov, meaning Martin and his professional partner Britt Stewart were sent packing from the competition.

Speaking to host Tyra Banks after the result, Kove said: " [I'm feeling] beyond belief. I'm good."

Kove achieved scores of just 13 and 15 during the competition. He received 13 for his Pasa Doble in week 1 and 15 for his Cha Cha in week 2, meaning overall, he achieved the lowest combined score reaching just 28 out of 80.

Are Cheryl Burke and Cody Rigsby leaving 'DWTS'?

The first elimination was not the only drama to unfold on Dancing With the Stars Week 2.

Two-time Mirror Ball Champion Cheryl Burke has had to step away from the competition after testing positive for COVID-19. Not only did Cheryl miss Week 2 of the competition, her isolation means she will be forced to miss Week 3 of the competition.

She took to Instagram to share the news, posting a video of her on way to get a COVID-19 test. Burke also documented receiving the positive result. Holding back tears, Burke said: "I feel so bad for Cody. I feel like I'm letting him down."

She added: "I have to quarantine for 10 days. I've been ordered to stay at home."

Cody is currently in isolation as he is a close contact of Cheryl's.

However, there is good news for fans of Cheryl and Cody. They will not be removed from the competition and are expected to return in Week 4. At the moment, it is unknown if Cody will dance with a different partner in Week 3.

For Week 2's performance, the audience and judges watched Cheryl and Cody's taped rehearsal performance, with the judges giving their verdict based on the tape.

Their routine received mixed reviews from the judges. Len Goodman thought the performance was good, with a lot of "razzle-dazzle". Derek Hough agreed but noted a few parts were out of sync.

Bruno Tonioli confessed he wished he was watching the dance in the ballroom and Carrie Ann thought it inevitably was "a little lackluster". They received 24 out of 40 in total for their routine.

Dancing With the Stars season 30 airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET.
