A dead body was found on Tuesday at the New Jersey home of New York Giants cornerback Janoris Jenkins, according to multiple reports.

TMZ was first to report the news, the outlet further reporting that Jenkins was apparently out of the state at the time the body was discovered in the basement of his home. Further details were scarce Tuesday evening. The Daily Voice reported that authorities were still trying to sort through the details of the incident.

"The deceased is not the owner of the residence, but the identity of the male decedent cannot be released until next of kin have been notified," Assistant Bergen County Prosecutor Dennis Calo told the Daily Voice.

WABC reported the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit and the Fair Lawn Police Department were investigating the death.

"We are aware of and monitoring the situation," the Giants franchise said in a statement, according to WABC.

ESPN's Dianna Russini‏ reported on Twitter that Jenkins was in Florida at the time the body was found. She tweeted that she was told it was a homicide investigation.

"I've also learned Janoris Jenkins had family staying at that home...he had plans to return to New Jersey today to deal with this situation but he may stay in Florida," Russini tweeted Tuesday evening.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
