According to a tweet from the official Destiny Twitter account Friday morning, the Almighty destruction event is set to take place at 1 p.m. EDT, Saturday June 6. It doesn't appear there will be any update required to see the event. Guardians only have to snag a spot in the Tower at the designated time to watch the event as it happens.

What is the Almighty?

The Almighty is essentially the Cabal version of a Death Star, crafted by Cabal leader Dominus Ghaul. It consumes stars and then uses their energy to power a beam capable of mass destruction. As if that weren't bad enough, however, destroying the Almighty has the potential to wipe out anything in its area.

The Almighty threat first made its presence known at the start of the Season of the Worthy in March, but had been mostly forgotten until the last few weeks as it slowly began to consume the sky in the Tower. It may be difficult to see since it hovers right in a sun spot, but there's no mistaking that the object has slowly been making its way closer to our beloved Guardian hub.

Given that the Almighty is a massive ship full of Cabal, it's probably not a good thing to have it hurl towards a population center. So it'll be up to the great Rasputin to finally find a way to take it down.

Precisely how he plans to do so remains to be seen, but the impact of this event likely has a lot to do with the plot of Season 11 and possibly even Season 12 further down the road. Bungie has been uncharacteristically quiet about the details of Season 11, and that's likely because they revolve around the results of this event.

Will major locations like the Tower, the Traveler or the Last City be forever changed by the mayhem? How might that alter certain events or activities players experience in the days and weeks ahead? We don't know for sure, but we can't wait to find out.The Almighty has had a longstanding presence in the Destiny universe, but could its destruction mean more than its existence?

Destiny 2 is available now on PS4, Xbox One, PC and Stadia.
