The Arizona Diamondbacks are seemingly bound to lose starting pitcher Zac Gallen in free agency this offseason.

Gallen is one of the best pitchers on the market, but he's coming off a bit of a down year. Plenty of teams will still seemingly have interest in signing Gallen. The Chicago Cubs were reportedly close to acquiring him earlier this winter, but nothing came to fruition.

CBS Sports' RJ Anderson predicted Gallen would instead bolt for a deal with the Los Angeles Angels. Jim Bowden of The Athletic earlier this offseason projected Gallen would sign for $135 million over five seasons in free agency.

"Gallen did what he could late to salvage an otherwise rotten walk year, but he still finished with a career-worst 89 ERA+," Anderson wrote. "Coming into the winter, he felt like a candidate to take a pillow contract and try again next season ... then he rejected the qualifying offer and added draft-pick compensation to the transaction cost.

"His landing spot may come down to a team who views this as a buy-low situation on a player who may otherwise be out of their price range -- remember, he's received Cy Young Award consideration three times."

The Angels need to add talent to their roster in the biggest way possible. The front office is seemingly ready to contend, but the roster isn't good enough yet.

Gallen would fit perfectly in Los Angeles. The Angels likely wouldn't be able to afford an ace like Framber Valdez, but if Gallen can rebound to anything close to his ceiling, signing him for around $100 million would be a great fit.

If he can bounce back from a down year, the Angels would have an ace on their hands.
