The Arizona Diamondbacks are struggling a bit to start the 2026 season. With Friday's loss to the Atlanta Braves, they fell to 3-5 and entered Saturday 2 1/2 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West, tied for second place with the San Francisco Giants.
In Thursday's game, utility man Jordan Lawlar, who was off to a hot start this season, was hit by a pitch on his right wrist and was forced to exit the game. Unfortunately for Arizona, Lawlar has been placed on the 10-day injured list. Arizona called up Adrian Del Castillo in a corresponding roster move.
Steve Gilbert of MLB.com provided an update on the 23-year-old's injury, including a possible timetable for a return.

"Jordan Lawlar has a fractured right wrist," Gilbert reported Friday on X. He had the X-ray taken (Thursday) that showed no fracture but the CT scan which is a more detailed scan taken (Friday) showed that there is a fracture in the wrist, so he's going to be out probably 6-8 weeks."

Lawlar was hitting .333/.400/.556 with a home run, two RBI, a stolen base and a .956 OPS to start the season. This is ultimately a big blow for Arizona as it tries to overcome its slow start and stay in the NL West race.
Arizona has lost the first two games of its series with the Braves and will look to bounce back on Saturday, but it will have to do it without Lawlar.
The Diamondbacks selected Lawlar with the sixth pick in the 2021 MLB draft out of Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas. He made his major league debut in September 2023.
It will be interesting to see how Arizona fares without him in its lineup.
