Diplomat Dies in Iran After Falling From High-Rise Building

A senior Swiss diplomat has died after falling from a high-rise building in the Iranian capital of Tehran, local media has reported.

The 51-year-old woman was the Swiss embassy's first secretary, a spokesperson for the emergency services told the Mehr news agency.

Police in the Kamraniyeh neighborhood called paramedics to the scene on Tuesday morning, but the woman had been dead for some time, Mojtaba Khaledi told the agency.

A spokesperson for the Swiss foreign ministry confirmed to Newsweek that an employee had died in a fatal incident on Tuesday.

"The [Federal Department of Foreign Affairs] and Federal Councillor Ignazio Cassis are shocked by the tragic death and express their deepest condolences to the family," a ministry spokesperson said in a statement.

The ministry added that it was in touch with the woman's family and the Swiss embassy with Iranian authorities.

The spokesperson said they could not provide further details about the circumstances of the death for data protection and privacy reasons.
