Thousands of users of the online messaging platform Discord reported disruptions across the United States late Thursday.

More than 6,500 problems were reported at one point after 11 p.m. ET on Thursday, according to the outage tracker Downdetector.

Discord acknowledged the issue, writing on its website: "New voice calls are failing to be created. We are currently investigating."

What To Know

One user reported on Downdetector: "I have been trying to access Discord through the Linux PC app for the last 30 minutes and have been continually receiving this error message: 'Discord. Temporary Network Error. We've encountered a temporary network error, but we are working to resolve the issue. Please wait a few minutes and try again.' And in my case, try again...and again...and again."

Another user wrote: "App is very glitchy it keeps kicking me out of my account non stop then when I try to login by send a 2fa code and it keeps saying the code is incorrect and it's not I have text my phone millions of times with new 2fa code and none of them are working please fix this."

A third user said: "Me and a few friends sat in VC waiting for endpoint to connect and randomly got back in VC all together, except for the people on mobile so I will say it's quite odd whatever is going on at discord HQ."

Discord announced that a fix had been implemented at around 1.45 a.m. ET, and that it was monitoring results. It later said that the issue had been resolved at 1.56 a.m.

Thursday's disruption comes after the platform faced backlash earlier this year after announcing that it would place every account into a default "teen-appropriate" experience there unless was proof that users were adults.

The company said that more than 90 percent of users would continue to use the app normally, with the age "automatically determined through our existing safety systems and no additional action required."

"We do not require universal ID uploads or face scans and only a small percentage of users, generally those seeking access to age-restricted spaces, may be asked to confirm their age," it said.

At the end of February, the rollout of the enhanced age assurance (originally slated for March) was postponed until the second half of 2026 to "expand verification options, increase vendor transparency, and publish detailed technical documentation."
