'Made Me Tear Up': Internet Can't Handle Devastated Dog Who Lost His Ball

Dogs are known for being among the more expressive animals. But one canine Tiktok star appears to feel a little more than most other dogs, if a recent viral video is anything to go by.

The video, posted by @eltonthegoldenretriever, is a 16-second clip that shows the golden retriever curled up in the lap of a man and looking emotionally fragile. A series of captions tell the tragic tale, which begins, "Today Elton lost his ball when he was playing in the park..." The dog's face is buried among the legs of the man, who is petting him affectionately.

The captions then explain, "It was only when he got home that he realized it was truly gone ... We tried to tell him that another dog will be very happy to find it!... But he still needed some cuddles from Dad for comfort..."

The video, titled "That little paw #dogdad #fyp #goldenretriever #goodboy," has attracted over 2.1 million views, more than 185,000 likes, and more than 900 comments. Fellow Tiktokers clearly felt Elton's pain, and some even offered their help.

@avaaabitch, wrote, "omg where's the park I'll go find the ball," while @graciebarnsley commented, "why has this actually made me tear up."

Some Tiktok users shared stories about their own dogs, including @Goonergirl2 who wrote, "That's devastation right there...I have the same reaction with my lab, it's a life or death situation."

@maschinlein simply wrote, "That's it, I'm getting a dog." This is a sentiment that's been shared by many Americans over the past couple of years, according to data recently published by Statista. Dogs are by far the most widely owned type of pet across the U.S., with 69 million households owning at least one dog, according to a 2021/22 pet owners' survey.

Interestingly, a separate data set, also published by Statista, shows that many Americans reported acquiring new pets during the COVID pandemic. A survey conducted in late 2020 found that 10 percent of respondents had taken in a new furry friend, as a result of the increased time spent at home.

Hopefully, all of those new pet owners are as loving as Elton's owners, who found time to comfort him after the loss of his favorite toy.

Echoing many other Tiktokers, @Celeste commented, "GET HIM A NEW ONE PLEASE," while @DKona13, wrote, "I'm pretty sure you have a group of volunteers to go help look for the ball!! The sad puppy is making us sad!!"

Summing up how most of us felt watching the video, @elv_ch wrote, "i can't handle his cuteness really!!!"
