Dog's Adorable Reaction After Cat Comes Over for Cuddle Goes Viral

Heartwarming footage has surfaced of a cat and dog enjoying a super cute cuddle together.

In a video posted to Reddit by elphaba16, a ginger cat can be seen getting up from one side of a couch and attempting to snuggle up to a sleeping canine resting at the other end.

The cat has no qualms about waking her canine friend from his slumber, gently pawing against the dog's back and rubbing herself affectionately against the sleeping pooch.

Yet it's the dog's reaction to her advances that truly make the clip something special, with the sleepy canine adjusting his position to let the cat slip in beside him for a well-earned doze together.

The clip has garnered over 47,000 upvotes on Reddit, with cat and dog lovers alike flocking to gush over the animal pair's sweet relationship.

"I love it when cats are nearly the same size as their doggie friends. But still think they are small enough to go sit on them and not disturb them," Radiant_Health3841 commented.

"This encapsulates what I love about animals," I_also_know_noting wrote. "When they love you, there is no shame about cuddling with you. They don't care about personal space, they come right up and snuggle."

The video was originally posted by the Instagram account ginger_cat_and_vizslas, which chronicles the adventures of Kelvin and Joule, a ginger cat and Vizsla "lookalike" dog. Their owner, Brenna Eckert, adopted both Kelvin and Joule.

"The animal shelters had given each of them a temporary name before we adopted them," she told The Dodo. "Kelvin's shelter name was Socks and Joule's shelter name was Sandals. How ironic that Socks and Sandals make such a great pair!"

Eckert said she discovered her pets' penchant for cuddling up together after setting up security cameras to keep an eye on the pair while she was at work.

"We noticed that Kelvin and Joule were laying on the couch together almost every day," she told the news outlet. "I moved the camera to get a closer view of the couch and was amazed to see that they weren't just sharing the couch, but they were snuggling up against each other."

Eckert has been posting videos of their affectionate adventures together ever since amassing over 78,000 followers on Instagram in the process.

While cats and dogs are often depicted as rivals, usually at odds with one another, some experts say that pet owners can take some steps to help foster a friendship between the two species.

However, the experts at pet food manufacturer Purina say the trick to making cats and dogs friends is to "start with the right introductions."

"Cats are quite unforgiving in their nature and are less likely to be open to the situation if it goes badly, so it's very important that the first encounter goes well," they said. "Take your time with the introductions and let them sniff each other before meeting face-to-face by using their bedding or something else that they frequently use."

Purina believes this will help them to "familiarise" themselves with each other a little at a time, before eventually meeting.

The special relationship some cats and dogs enjoy together has been chronicled in several recent viral video clips.

In one adorable bit of footage, a dog was filmed clumsily sitting on top of her owner's cat with the feline's amusing reaction prompting much hilarity online.

Another slightly more extreme example came when a panther ended up befriending a rottweiler after the wild cat was rescued from a zoo.
