Dogs Maul Home Intruder to Death: Police

A home invader was mauled to death by two dogs inside a Georgia home and later discovered by the owner, according to reports.

The Newnan Times-Herald reported on Thursday that Coweta County investigators were alerted after the body of a man was found at a home in Walt Sanders Road at 10:30 a.m. local time last Friday.

The outlet added it was the homeowner who discovered the man's body on his front porch when he returned home.

Coweta County officers later investigated with assistance from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI).

According to the outlet, the GBI medical examiner ruled the intruder was mauled to death by the homeowner's dogs.

The authorities later identified the victim as being 21-year-old Alex Abraha.

Coweta County Sheriff's Office investigator Toby Nix told The Newnan Times-Herald there was evidence that Abraha had entered the house.

Once inside, Abraha was attacked by the homeowner's dogs and suffered serious injuries forcing him to leave. But, he succumbed to his injuries and died on the porch, investigators continued to tell the outlet.

The GBI is assisting with the investigation and the dogs have since been turned over to animal control.

Newsweek has contacted the Coweta County Sheriff's Office and GBI for comment.

There have been numerous cases in the U.S. where dogs have mauled and even killed people.

Earlier in September, an 85-year-old woman died after being attacked by multiple dogs in a Hawaii park.

Dolores Teresa Oskins of Keaau was pronounced dead at the Hilo Medical Center after she was attacked on Saturday, August 14.

Officers said two dogs attacked Oskins while she was searching for her lost dog and went on to suffer several puncture wounds and lacerations to her neck and arms.

In August, a family dog mauled a toddler to death after he was left alone in the New York family's home with his brothers.

The New York Police Department found the 19-month-old "heavily bleeding" after he suffered bite wounds to his neck and shoulder.

Emergency Service Unit personnel responded to the scene and took custody of the dog, which was later brought to Animal Care and Control.

The toddler's dad left him with his brothers—aged 9 and 11—in the family's ground floor apartment while he went to work on Tuesday evening, the New York Daily News reported.

During the attack, the boys ran outside to get help and a passerby came and pulled the boy out of the apartment.
