Don Lemon Fires Back at Tucker Carlson Over 'Section 8' Comments

Don Lemon has hit back at Fox News' Tucker Carlson, after the latter went on a rant where he said the CNN host was a "successful victim" and commented he "does not live in Section 8 housing."

The CNN host addressed Carlson's comments on Tuesday, where he branded the Fox News talisman as having shown "ignorance."

Lemon said: "I just want to fill you in on something that is going on at the Fox propaganda network. I don't usually respond to these things. I don't like to punch down and I'd rather focus on issues on this show that are important to you, other than someone taking potshots at me."

The CNN host then cut to a clip from Carlson's Monday night show, where he said Lemon "does not live in Section 8 housing" and that he "lives in one of the whitest towns in America. In fact 80 percent."

Section 8 is a common term for the Housing Choice Voucher Program, which is funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and allows successful applicants to receive rental subsidies.

Lemon responded: "Section 8 housing. Let me simply just say this. If you think that a Black person who doesn't live in public housing can't experience or understand racism in this country, well, that says much more about you and your ignorance on these issues than it does about me."

Carlson made the comments on his show after Lemon gave an interview to The Washington Post, where the CNN host spoke about his colleagues, the Trump presidency and race relations in the U.S.

In the lengthy interview, Lemon said he believed it was wrong to claim the U.S. was in a "post-racial world" following the election of former President Barack Obama."

He later added: "We're living in two different realities as Black and White people."

On the Monday night edition Tucker Carlson Tonight, the host lashed out at Lemon, whose name he mispronounced several times, and mocked his show.

He said: "We read that [the interview] and we thought, well here is a guy who makes millions of dollars a year for presiding over a show that is failing. That seems like a pretty good deal. But like so many, Don Lemon is also a victim."

Carlson continued: "He regularly lectures America about diversity. But what he didn't tell The Washington Post, is that in his free time he runs away from diversity. His reality is that he doesn't like diversity at all. None of them do."

This is not the first time that Carlson has hit out against CNN, which last week he branded "an arm of the woke national security state."
