Joe Biden Gives Donald Trump a Nickname of His Own

Democratic presidential hopeful Joe Biden has suggested President Donald Trump will have a nickname of his own after the 2020 election, hitting out at the commander-in-chief in what has become an ongoing back-and-forth between the pair.

Taking to Twitter on Sunday evening, Biden wrote: "In one year, we will give Trump a nickname of his own: Former President Donald Trump."

Trump is well known for branding his opponents and detractors with unflattering nicknames, from his most recent description of "do-nothing Democrats," "Shifty Adam Schiff" and "nervous Nancy Pelosi" to his historical "crooked Hillary Clinton" and "Lyin' Ted Cruz."

The president has repeatedly dubbed Biden, who at 76 is the second oldest of the Democratic candidates, "sleepy Joe Biden" and made digs about Biden's age—despite being just four years younger than the former VP.

Both Biden and Trump have been particularly vocal about their distaste for one another, particularly following the launch of an impeachment inquiry looking into a July phone call between Trump Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, in which the pair discussed Biden and his son Hunter.

During the call, Trump said: "There's a lot of talk about Biden's son, that Biden stopped the prosecution and a lot of people want to find out about that so whatever you can do with the Attorney General would be great. Biden went around bragging that he stopped the prosecution so if you can look into it... It sounds horrible to me."

Around the time of the call, aid to Ukraine was held up by Trump, although the president has denied that this was part of a quid pro quo arrangement or that there was any pressure on Ukraine to investigate the Bidens.

However, since the White House released a summary transcript of the call, the president has repeatedly made unsubstantiated claims that Hunter Biden improperly benefited from his family connections during his time on the board of Ukrainian company Burisma, and suggested that he and his father should be investigated.

For his part, Biden has denied the claims and came out swinging at the president in the October Democratic debate, addressing the allegations made by the president against himself and his son and commenting: "The president and his thugs are flat lying. He doesn't want me to be the candidate. If I'm the candidate, he knows I will beat him like a drum."
