Former President Donald Trump raised $12 million at a high-profile tech fundraiser in the liberal city of San Francisco on Thursday night, according to reports.
The sold-out event drew significant attention and was attended by some of the biggest names in the tech industry. Top tickets went for $300 per person and $500 per couple, and VIP tickets were priced at $50,000, to be a member of the host committee, sources told Reuters.
The fundraiser was held at the mansion of venture capitalist David Sacks and his wife, Jacqueline, in the Pacific Heights neighborhood of the city, according to an invitation seen by the news agency. The reception and dinner were hosted by the Sacks and fellow venture capitalist Chamath Palihapitiya.

Despite the historically liberal leanings of the Bay Area, the event underscored a growing interest in Trump's policies from a segment of the tech community.
Sacks and Palihapitiya jointly host the All-In podcast covering tech, economics, startups, and politics. The hosts are known for having more conservative-leaning viewpoints. Sacks is also a personal friend of Tesla CEO Elon Musk; in 2023, the pair hosted a livestream by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, announcing that he was planning to run in the Republican presidential primaries, as reported by Reuters.
The San Francisco event showed that Trump has not slowed down his fundraising efforts despite his conviction in the recent hush-money trial in New York. In a recent statement, the Republican National Committee (RNC) said that more than 485,000 donors had contributed $34.8 million in the 24 hours since the verdict in the New York trial was announced. His campaign and the RNC have previously stated that they raised a "record-breaking" $141 million in May alone.
On Friday, Newsweek reached out to RNC for comment.
In addition to small-dollar contributions, Trump's fundraising efforts have been bolstered by significant contributions from high-profile donors and political action committees (PACs). Wealthy supporters and influential conservative groups have continued to funnel money into Trump's campaign. This ensures that he remains a formidable contender as the presumptive Republican nominee in the 2024 presidential election.
The former president has consistently dominated GOP fundraising efforts since leaving office and is once again showing his ability to galvanize financial support from a loyal base of donors.
However, the fact that Trump has been able to raise such a substantial amount in San Francisco, recognized as America's most liberal city, is surprising to many.
