Doomsday Clock #5: Geoff Johns Says 'Watchmen and DC Collide Full-On'

Doomsday Clock #5 will release May 30, instead of May 23 as originally planned. After general confusion that issues five and six were being pushed back another month, DC president and Doomsday Clock writer Geoff Johns took to Twitter to clarify, linking to an official statement on the DC Comics website.

"Geoff Johns and Gary Frank are committed to delivering new issues to fans on a bimonthly basis," the release reads. "Gary and I are working diligently to deliver a thought-provoking and beautifully drawn series that's unlike anything else on the shelves today," says Johns. "It's incredibly important to us to keep up the quality of Doomsday Clock, but also to deliver it on the bimonthly schedule and we intend to keep our word. Issue #5 will begin the countdown for the DC Universe as the worlds of the Watchmen and DC collide full-on. Expect to see characters known and obscure step into the spotlight. And the strangest team-up you've ever seen."

According to the solicitation, expect to catch up with The Comedian, revealed to be alive in the DC Universe early in the series. Mime and Marionette are still loose in Gotham City, so what exactly have they been up to since they arrived? And hopefully, we'll see Rorschach make his way out of Arkham Asylum. The last issue hints that Saturn Girl saves him, but we'll have to wait until later this month to know for sure.

Let's hope Doomsday Clock #5 is as good as the previous four, as the following issue does not arrive until August 29. Ever since DC announced publishing delays, speculation about how Doomsday Clock will link up with the DC Universe continuity has grown. Frank and Johns, two of comic book's most decorated creatives, hold a lot of power right now. Both The Button and Rebirth proved something fishy is happening in the DC Universe and we're all waiting for Doomsday Clock's big reveal. The rest of the universe depends on this ending.

While you wait, check out some new issue #5 pages from Gary Frank. How do you feel about Doomsday Clock so far? Let us know in the comments.
