Dragon Ball Department Created at Toei Animation

Although Dragon Ball Super ended, the property will be given a massive push from Toei Animation. The production company announced -- via Anime News Network -- that it will begin a restructuring of its various departments on April 1, which includes the formation of a third department focused mainly on the Dragon Ball projects.

Under Toei Animation's Anime Planning and Production Headquarters, the new Dragon Ball department will be be led by Atsushi Suzuki, who produced Digimon Adventure tri and Expelled from Paradise, and will retain his titles of executive and business development department head.

It's unclear what the formation of this Dragon Ball department at Toei Animation means for the future of the series, but it's obvious the production company is dedicated to bringing more projects from the world of Dragon Ball. It made a lot of money for the company in 2017, after all.

A Dragon Ball Super film set to release in Japan later this year has been teased by series creator Akira Toriyama as a continuation of the anime series, which ended March 24. It will explore the history between Freeza and the Saiyans. Here's what the legendary creator had to say.

"The Dragon Ball Super movie this time will be the next story in the series currently airing on TV. It will be an episode after catching our breath from the climax of the Tournament of Power with the universe's existence on the line; with content that will give a little better understanding about Freeza and the Saiyans, which I hadn't properly depicted up till now; and leading to a mighty foe saved for the occasion, which I think has it shaping up to be a really enjoyable story."

The end of the Dragon Ball Super anime was announced in January and despite its uneven quality and production pressures the series was one of the highest-rated shows in Japan.

The end of Dragon Ball Super saw Android 17 win the Tournament of Power for Universe 7 after Goku and Freeza teamed up to take Jiren out. Android 17 used his wish from the Super Dragon Balls to bring all the Universes that were wiped out from the tournament back.

Freeza was resurrected by Beerus and Whis as a gift for his efforts in the Tournament of Power. Although it seemed the tyrant had a small character change, he promised Goku and the others he won't revert from his evil ways.
