Drinking Tech: Bottle Meters

Bartenders aren't happy about this use of the airwaves. In July, Hotel des Balances in Lucerne, Switzerland, fit its liquor bottles with wireless flow meters, made by Beverage Metrics, that keep track of how much alcohol is served and paid for, and sends the data to the manager. Profits have risen--but bartenders hate it. "Big Brother is watching you," says hotel drinks manager Stephan Odermatt. "I wouldn't like it either"
