Driver Waiting for Assistance With Broken Down Vehicle Fatally Shoots Naked Man in Alabama

A naked man in Alabama was fatally shot on Tuesday by a driver waiting for assistance with a broken down vehicle.

According to a press release from the Birmingham Police Department, the incident occurred at around 1:30 a.m. local time on Tuesday. Officers with the Birmingham Police Department were responding to reports of a person shot near 2549 7th Avenue North, police said.

When Birmingham Police Officers arrived to the scene, they discovered an unresponsive victim laying in the road. Police said the victim appeared to suffer a gunshot wound.

According to the Birmingham Police Department, "preliminary investigations" of the incident suggest the victim was walking around the area "fully nude."

While the victim was walking around the area naked, he "reportedly" walked toward a driver that was inside a broken down vehicle, awaiting assistance. According to the Birmingham Police Department, the victim then opened the door of the broken down vehicle. When the victim opened the door of the broken down vehicle, the driver fired a gun at him, according to police.

Shortly after discovering the unresponsive victim, officials with the Birmingham Fire and Rescue Department arrived on scene to assist. The Birmingham Fire and Rescue Department transported the victim to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced deceased, police said in the press release.

The Birmingham Police Department identified the victim as 23-year-old Marcus Leroy Williams of Birmingham.

The driver that shot Williams was not identified by police. Police did not provide any further information on the gun that was used or how many shots were fired.

According to the Birmingham Police Department, the unidentified driver of the disabled vehicle remained on scene shortly after police arrived. Police said in the press release that the driver of the vehicle was taken to the Birmingham Police Headquarters "where Homicide detectives questioned the motorist."

The Birmingham Police Department said that as they continue their investigation, anyone with information on the incident is encouraged to come forward.

"Anonymous tips can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers through the Birmingham Police Department's Mobile App," the Birmingham Police Department said.

In addition to the naked man, the Birmingham Police Department said they were investigating another fatal shooting. At around 2:20 a.m. local time on Tuesday, officers were dispatched to 1313 3rd Avenue North following reports of an individual shot. When they arrived on scene, the victim was "lying unresponsive on the walkway of the property suffering from an apparent gunshot wound."

The victim, who was not identified by police, was pronounced deceased by the Birmingham Fire and Rescue Department.

Newsweek reached out to the Birmingham Police Department for further comment but did not receive a response in time for publication.
