Who Was Emmett Moore? Soldier Shot Dead at House Party

An active U.S. soldier was shot dead at a house party in Washington state on Saturday night.

Army Sergeant Emmett Moore, 22, was shot at a party inside a Parkland home, according to Pierce County Sheriff's Office.

Police were called to the 1600 block of 112th Street South in Parkland just after 6 p.m. local time, where they found Moore with a gunshot wound.

Responders used first aid and CPR to try and save him, but to no avail.

Police are still hunting for a suspect and no arrests have yet been made. Detectives are still trying to determine the cause of the shooting.

Joint Base Lewis–McChord, a military facility, confirmed Moore's death on Sunday.

"It is with a heavy heart that we mourn the loss of Sgt. Moore," Lt. Col. John Tisserand, the 1-14 CAV battalion commander, said in a statement to KIRO 7 News. "This is an extremely difficult time for the Warhorse family. Our primary mission now is taking care of the family members of our fallen soldier."

Neighbors told KIRO 7 that they heard gunshots on Saturday night.

"We were having a barbecue, then we heard like three or four (shots), which we thought were fireworks. Then, all the cops came," Sandra Kinney, a Parkland resident told the local television channel.

Newsweek has contacted the Sheriff's Office for further comment.

The office told the news channel that it was the 16th homicide in Pierce County so far this year.

Only hours after the incident on Saturday evening, there was another killing about a mile and half away.

According to a video statement on the Sheriff Office's Twitter page, 911 was called to an incident at 9:57 p.m in Parkland at a Motorcycle Gathering at 10400 Pacific Ave storage complex.

"Deputies responded and found one man down on the ground and there were numerous motorcycles leaving the complex. Deputies administrated first aid to the man and rushed paramedics onto the scene, however the man was pronounced deceased," the statement said.

There had been a large party at the location during the day and evening prior to the shooting, and investigators are at the scene.

On June 17, deputies arrested three juveniles for armed carjacking at a gas station in the 11900 block of Pacific Avenue South in Parkland.

After officers arrived, the victim of the carjacking said he had just given tattoos to the three suspects and was giving them a ride home when they drew guns and threatened to shoot him.

The victim got out the vehicle and the three juveniles sped off in it. After a police chase and the suspects crashed into police-deployed stop ticks, the juveniles fled on foot before deputies caught up with them and arrested them.
