Jackman and Foster ran in the same acting circles, and they were photographed together after he attended a performance of Shrek the Musical in New York City featuring her as Princess Fiona.

Jackman and Foster made multiple appearances together in New York while working on the production, including at a Broadway Barks charity event and on stage at the Tony Awards performing a dance number. "He disarms everyone, and he doesn't make anything about him. And he's now become one of my best friends, which was a surprise, because you usually go into these things thinking, 'I hope we get along,'" she revealed in an interview with Vogue at the time. She added, "But we just spend Memorial Day with our families. It's really fun to meet new friends after 40."

Jackman and his wife of 27 years, Deborra-Lee Furness, issued a statement announcing the end of their relationship. "We have been blessed to share almost 3 decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage. Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth," the Aussies, who first met on the set of a television series in 1995 and married the following year, told People.
"Our family," which includes their adult children — son Oscar and daughter Ava — "has been and always will be our highest priority. We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness," the statement continued, concluding, "We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition in all of our lives."

Furness fueled speculation of behind-the-scenes drama when she used her private Instagram account to "like" a video posted on the platform by gossip blogger Tasha Lustig. The clip showed a photograph of Furness's ex, Jackman, with Foster at a red carpet event. "Besties, do y'all remember when I told you this man was up to no good? That he blindsided his wife and he was running off with his mistress? It seems they want to soft launch this now," Lustig said. Newsweek was unable to confirm that Furness liked the post.
