While the Avengers were attempting to find ways to bring back half the universe following Thanos snapping everyone out of existence using the Infinity Gauntlet, Tony Stark devised a time-traveling instance that could lead to the heroes not only securing the infinity stones but bringing everyone back that had been turned to ash at the end of "Avengers: Infinity War."

Through the team traveling back in time, it is revealed that Hawkeye and Black Widow must obtain the Soul Stone by sacrificing themselves on Vormir. Though Hawkeye attempts to be the hero, he is bested by Black Widow, who launches herself off the cliff for him to obtain the Soul Stone.

The heartbreaking moment led to the definitive death of the character, but it's a death that fans have not allowed to be real. Johannson discussed fans' opinions on the matter, and shut down the idea of Black Widow returning by some MCU magic.

When promoting "Jurassic World Rebirth," Johannson shut down the idea of seeing Black Widow again in a Marvel movie.

"Natasha is dead. She is dead. She's dead. Okay? They just don't want to believe it," Johansson said of Marvel fans. "They're like, 'But she could come back!' Look, I think the balance of the entire universe is held in her hand. We're going to have to let her go. She saved the world. Let her have her hero moment."

There have been plenty of rumors of former MCU stars returning at some point for the upcoming "Avengers" Doomsday" movie, including Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom.

Despite the rumors of different multiverse versions of the characters set to appear to some degree, Johansson has shut down the idea that she is going to return to reprise her fan-favorite role as Black Widow.

As in comics, the MCU can often bring back characters from the dead, but it sounds like Natasha Romanoff is gone for good.
