We've finally got a proper glimpse of Marvel's first family in the trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
Posted on Marvel's official YouTube channel, which you can see below, it's our longest look yet at the film. It features The Thing cooking in the kitchen, the Human Torch taking flight, and Sue Storm turning invisible.
As well as that, there's a foreboding shot of Galactus casting his considerable shadow over New York City. He's smaller than his usual planet-sized self, but then again, he can change size at will.

Marvel teased the trailer yesterday in 20 seconds of footage showing a crowd of eager children watching a space launch from a TV shop window. Space exploration plays a big role in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, it being a basis for how the superhero team got their powers. Notably, the trailer establishes our heroes already have their powers, meaning this won't be a long-drawn-out origin story.
According to their start in the comics, an experimental space flight exposes them to cosmic rays, giving each of the four members incredible abilities. The Thing acquires rock-hard skin and super strength, Human Torch gets fire manipulation and flight, Mister Fantastic gains stretchy limbs, and Sue Storm starts turning invisible.
As seen in the trailer, The Fantastic Four: First Steps has a uniquely retro aesthetic. Set to a vibrant 1960s backdrop, it's a time period full of chunky televisions and knitted costumes, a far cry from Captain America: Brave New World and Sam Wilson's technologically advanced kit (that launches 14 February 2025).
Is Captain America in The Fantastic Four?
Speaking of Captain America, there are those that think we'll see a cameo from the previous Captain America, Steve Rogers. That's because at the end of Avengers: Endgame, he goes back to the past, just after the end of WW2, to be with his love Peggy Carter. If so, we'll see a Rogers who's roughly 15 years older than he was at the end of Endgame.
However, The Fantastic Four: First Steps might not be set in our reality at all. Instead, it could take place in an alternate version of the 1960s. That explains why there are some pieces of technology not present in the actual 1960s, such as the Fantastic Four's robot pal, H.E.R.B.I.E.
Also, the 'alternate timeline' theory explains why The Fantastic Four weren't available to help out when Loki invaded Earth in 2012's Avengers Assemble, nor on the other numerous invasions that happened since. That's why the most popular theory is they'll get warped into the MCU proper (or 'The Sacred Timeline' of Earth-616) at the end of the movie.
They'll have Galactus to deal with before then, though. Maybe he'll wipe out Earth in the film, forcing the Fantastic Four to hop into a different universe. One of the biggest villains in Marvel history, Galactus is played by Ralph Ineson, and he has the power to eat entire planets. Galactus is a top-shelf Marvel antagonist, so we might be looking at a bad guy who's going to be causing a problem for the next decade or more.
