Get ready to see a “very different” Joker coming to the upcoming Batman TV series.
Those are the words of "Batman: Caped Crusader Season 2" co-showrunner James Tucker, who teased a fresh spin on Gotham's Clown Prince of Crime when the show airs next year.
"I think it'll be a new take on the Joker," Tucker tells The Direct. "If Joker begins with Mark Hamill and Jack Nicholson, this take on the Joker will be very different for them. But for people who've read comics for a long, long, long, long time, it won't be. I think some people will recognize it and go, 'Oh, I see what they're doing.' And other people will go, 'Wow, this is different.' But, I think it's all Joker."

"Batman: Caped Crusader" is a spiritual successor to "Batman: The Animated Series", which ran from 1992 to 1995. The first season premiered August 2024 on Prime Video, while the second is set to debut in 2026.
It introduced a new Batman voiced by "Midnight Mass" star Hamish Linklater. This suggests we'll also get a new actor voicing the Joker, too - but who?
Previously, the DC villain was voiced by Luke Skywalker actor Mark Hamill, but Hamill has indicated it might be time to hang up the gloves.
When long-time Batman voice Kevin Conroy passed away in November 2022, Hamill told Empire (via Screenrant) "there doesn’t seem to be a Batman for [him]."
We've already had our first glimpse of the Joker. At the end of "Batman: Caped Crusader Season 1", we see a close-up on Joker, shrouded in shadow, standing over a group of hostages holding a needle. "Perfect," he says with a gravelly voice as they laugh uncontrollably.
It'll be the second Joker introduced to the Batman universe since Barry Keoghan played him in Matt Reeves' "The Batman". With that being a deleted scene, though, it's unclear if Keoghan will return for "The Batman Part 2" in 2027.
While Reeves has no involvement in "Batman: Caped Crusader", it comes with his blessing, says Tucker.
"The only thing we may have directly in common is that our Batman is coming from a more detective angle and so is his, and the tone of the series, you know, there's a general dark tone. But other than that, you know, the settings are different, it's all different. We're basically coming from the same source material, just slightly verging away from stepping on each other's toes."
When Does Batman: Caped Crusader Season 2 Release?
"Batman: Caped Crusader Season 2" currently has no release date, but the first episodes are close to completion. Tucker says he is putting the "final touches" before they're ready to air "some time in 2026."
