Eric Garcetti Is at It Again | Opinion

Earlier this year, I wrote about how Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti made a ridiculous statement that completely mischaracterizes the purpose of our entire country in less than a sentence. He said, "let's continue to earn this freedom." At the time, I pointed out what should be obvious, that this is the most outrageous and un-American statement I can remember from a major political figure.

Well, Mayor Garcetti seems to be trying to find a way to top his own asinine comment.

During a CBS News interview, Mayor Garcetti had the gall to say that President Trump is "killing Americans right now and killing our economy."

Is he really so blind and out of touch that he doesn't see what is going on across the country? Of course, life is certainly good for Garcetti, who lives in a taxpayer-funded mansion and is attempting to raise his national profile through safe, left-wing media interviews to prepare for a future national run.

But Garcetti's statement to CBS shows that he is being willfully deceitful or unintentionally obtuse. After all, what the past few months have shown us is that the Democrats have cozied up to the arsonists, rioters and the looters—all while advocating for draconian lockdowns that would completely destroy the rebounding economy and lose millions of jobs. Why? Likely because they believe weaponizing a faltering economy narrative is their surest way to win back the White House on November 3rd.

What's clear to anyone not stuck inside a fake news bubble is that the Biden Riots have resulted in at least one dead Trump supporter in Portland, thousands of minorities and working-class businesses burned to the ground, a United States senator shamefully assaulted outside the White House and tens of thousands of innocent peoples' lives and livelihoods ruined.

The truth is that Joe Biden and the Democratic Party have been complicit in one of the most divisive and destructive social movements in America's history—one that has ignited a race war which previous generations sacrificed and marched valiantly in order to avoid.

It wasn't until polling showed Biden losing ground that he even had the audacity to "condemn" the riots and looting that have been happening across the country for months. Yet Joe Biden still hasn't condemned the mob that attacked Senator Rand Paul last week (he's probably waiting on polling to tell him what he should think about that, as well).

And then you have Democrats like Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers, who hates Trump so much that he would rather have people die in the streets of Kenosha than accept help from the federal government. Yet somehow, liberal elites like Garcetti have the audacity to claim it's the president who has blood on his hands. They should look down at their own, instead.

Just look at the city Mayor Garcetti is running. It was Democrats like Garcetti who, at the federal, state and local levels, instituted the harshest restrictions on businesses when the coronavirus pandemic began, even offering "rewards" to people who "snitched" on their rule-breaking neighbors.

So it was unsurprising to see that the July unemployment rate in the city of Los Angeles was 17.5 percent, which is predictably higher than the state and national averages. And the people being hardest hit by job losses are the very people Democrats pretend to represent: low-income and minority communities.

It's also no surprise, given the Democratic "leadership" in California, that the state accounts for the "largest number of permanent business closures in the country" since the start of the pandemic.

Recently, Garcetti also came under hot water for issuing a local ordinance that allows law enforcement agents to shut down the water and power to homes in L.A. that host parties. Apparently, electricity and running water are some of the freedoms that Garcetti thinks people should "earn."

Instead of shutting off power at people's homes, he should spend his time and resources addressing the homelessness crisis in L.A., which has increased 14 percent in just the last year. This has led the city to be "overrun by rodents" and trash piling up on the streets. No wonder L.A. County has among the highest net loss of population in the country, as well as a recall petition to get rid of the mayor that is gaining steam.

Yet despite all of these obvious deficiencies, Biden selected Garcetti as a co-chair of his presidential campaign. And with people like Garcetti in Biden's inner circle, it becomes increasingly difficult for Biden to portray himself as a centrist. After all, accusing the president of the United States of murdering Americans is not something any middle-of-the-road elected official would say.

We can expect more nonsense to come out of Garcetti's mouth over the next few months as he works tirelessly to raise his national profile—all while Los Angeles falls apart.
