Federal authorities raided a Beverly Hills mansion on Tuesday morning as part of an investigation involving former Democratic Representative Eric Swalwell of California, according to two people familiar with the inquiry who spoke with CNN.

The FBI operation targeted a property in Beverly Hills, Fox News reported, citing information it had learned about the investigation. Further details about the property, including its ownership and its precise connection to Swalwell, were not immediately clear.

The FBI told Newsweek when asked for confirmation of the reported raid: "Early this morning the FBI conducted an operation in the Los Angeles region related to an ongoing criminal investigation. We have no further comment."

Federal authorities raided a Beverly Hills mansion tied to an investigation involving former California Representative Eric Swalwell.

The reported search marks the latest development involving Swalwell, who left Congress earlier this year after facing allegations of sexual misconduct, which he has denied.

In August, federal agents searched Swalwell's Washington, D.C., home and seized electronic devices from him at San Francisco International Airport. Swalwell was not arrested or detained during that operation.

It was not immediately clear whether Tuesday's reported Beverly Hills search was conducted under the same investigation as the August operation.

Swalwell resigned from Congress and withdrew from the California governor's race earlier this year following the allegations against him. At the time of his resignation, Swalwell maintained that the allegations were false while acknowledging unspecified mistakes.

"I will fight the serious false allegations made against me," Swalwell said at the time. "However, I must take responsibility and ownership for the mistakes I did make."

The reported raid also comes shortly after the White House released declassified FBI records concerning Swalwell's past relationship with Christine "Fang Fang" Fang, who had been investigated over suspected ties to Chinese intelligence.
