Eric Trump Cancels Event at Gun Store Where Alleged Michigan Kidnap Plotter Worked

Eric Trump has canceled a planned campaign event at a gun shop in Michigan after it was revealed one of the men accused of conspiring to kidnap Governor Gretchen Whitmer used to work there.

The president's son was due to visit Huron Valley Guns in New Hudson for a "Make America Great Again" event on Tuesday.

However, the Trump campaign team are said to have decided to change the location after it was revealed one of the 13 men arrested in connection to the governor Whitmer kidnap plot was employed there for a short period earlier this year.

In a statement posted to Facebook, Huron Valley Guns confirmed a previous employee would show up "in a LOT of tactical gear," which they found "a little odd."

The store added: "We weren't comfortable with him for a few other reasons and fired him after 3 weeks. He ended up being one of the fringe characters arrested for the Governor Whitmer kidnapping."

Speaking to The Detroit News, Ed Swadish, owner of Huron Valley Guns, said he is not revealing which one of the 13 suspects worked there on advice from his lawyer.

"If this were a factory, this would be the equivalent of a floor sweeper," Swadish added of the man's role.

The store said they are glad the Trump team pulled out of the event as Whitmer "would have had a field day" against the president if the news came out afterward.

"They would accuse the administration of sending his son to a facility where terrorists work and train. This could not be further from the truth, but imagine the left spin," the Facebook post added.

"While we are completely disappointed, we would not want anything to hurt the chances of President Trump. So for that, we are glad this came out before the event occurred."

Eric Trump will now take the campaign event to the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi, Michigan. Vice President Mike Pence is also scheduled to hold an event at the Lacks Enterprises in Grand Rapids on Wednesday.

On Thursday, October 8, the FBI charged six people with conspiring to kidnap Whitmer.

The men were also accused of discussing the "violent overthrow of certain government and law enforcement components" as well as setting on explosives on the night they planned to carry out the kidnapping in order to divert police's attention.

A further seven suspects, including alleged members of a militia group called the Wolverine Watchmen, were also charged by Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel with being involved in the kidnap plot.

The Trump campaign team has been contacted for comment.
