'Money Heist' Season 5 Volume 1: What We Have Learned From First Trailer

Netflix revealed the first trailer for Money Heist's fifth season's first half, which is set to be released on September 3, on Monday.

The Spanish crime drama follows a ragtag gang of thieves, who all go by code-names of various cities, with the first and second season focused on their heist of the Royal Mint of Spain.

Seasons three and four saw the group embark on a new plan to assault the Bank of Spain so that they could save their comrade Rio from Europol.

The second half of season five will be released on the VOD platform on December 3.

The first-look trailer finds the group still in the Bank of Spain, and they are 100 hours into their assault on the building after being locked inside.

Here, Newsweek reveals the key moments from the trailer.

The Professor has been captured

Season four ended with The Professor (Álvaro Morte) being held at gunpoint by former police inspector Alicia Sierra (Najwa Nimri).

And the next season will clearly follow on just moments after the finale, as Sierra is seen attacking The Professor and tying him up.

The pregnant woman used torture while interrogating Rio before he was saved by the gang, and it is clear from the trailer that The Professor may suffer the same fate.

In what appears to be his final conversation with his fellow robbers, The Professor tells them it "is possible this is the last time I'll speak to all of you."

One particularly dramatic moment in the trailer sees Sierra push a chained Professor off a ledge, leaving him dangling over water.

The Spanish army are set to go after the gang

Colonel Luis Tamayo (Fernando Cayo) reveals to Ángel Rubio (Fernando Soto) that he is sending out the army against the gang.

In the trailer he says menacingly of the group: "They'll come out victorious or they'll come out dead."

The gang are mourning the loss of Nairobi (Alba Flores), who was killed by the Bank of Spain's chief of security César Gandía (José Manuel Poga) at the end of season 4, but now they'll have to focus on the enemy.

What began as a robbery will now turn into a war, as Tokyo (Úrsula Corberó), Rio (Miguel Herrán), Denver (Jaime Lorente), Lisbon (Itziar Ituño), and the others are set to go out guns blazing.

Arming up against the incoming soldiers, Lisbon tells the group: "We're up against the ropes, but we're not gonna end up in the morgue."

The gang are going to go out fighting

Tokyo, the series' unreliable narrator, admits in the trailer that the group have "no father, no plan, no hope," and it is up to them to figure out how they're going to defeat their biggest enemy yet.

With The Professor in Sierra's clutches with no escape plan, the gang must do all they can to survive without his intellect to help guide them.

The fifth season is clearly going to be action-packed, as the trailer gave a glimpse of the fighting between the gang and the Spanish army.

Berlin (Pedro Alonso) also makes a brief cameo in the trailer, and as the gang are seen fighting he is heard saying: "With me you'll find authentic liberation, and if we ever have to pay a price for it, then we pay it."

Money Heist season 5 volume 1 will be released on Netflix on September 3.
