'The Expanse' Season 5: When It Starts and How to Watch Online

The Expanse Season 5 starts this month on Amazon Prime Video, one year after the last set of episodes from the one-time Syfy series. Episodes of the show will be available to watch online weekly on the streamer until February when the countdown to the final season begins.

When does The Expanse Season 5 start?

The first three episodes of The Expanse Season 5 will be released on Amazon Prime Video on Wednesday, December 16, 10 months after filming on the season wrapped in February. The release time for those installments is 00:01 a.m. Pacific Time that morning. When episodes are available where you are will depend on the time difference between where you are and the west coast of the U.S., which is currently eight hours behind GMT / UTC.

The remaining episodes will be released weekly on Wednesdays at the same time. This means that the release date for all the episode of The Expanse Season 5 are as follows:

What to expect from The Expanse Season 5

The official synopsis for The Expanse Season 5 reads: "Season 5 of the series picks up as multitudes of humans leave the solar system in search of new homes and vast fortunes on the earth-like worlds beyond the alien Ring, and a heavy price for centuries of exploitation of the Belt finally comes due and a reckoning is at hand. For the crew of the Rocinante and the leaders of the Inner Planets and the Belt, the past and present converge, bringing forth personal challenges that have wide-reaching repercussions throughout the Solar System."

As with the previous instalments of the series, Season 5 is based on the Expanse series of book by James S. A Corey. The new episodes are mostly based on book five, Nemesis Games, which gives the season finale its name, and will also take some elements from book six, Babylon's Ashes.
