'F is For Family' Season 5: Will There Be Another Season on Netflix?

F is For Family is currently riding high on the Netflix charts, with the Bill Burr animated comedy currently at number 6 on the US streamer's list. With the current set of episodes ending with a character having a heart attack, fans are eagerly anticipating news about Season 5 of the comedy.

At the time of writing, Netflix has not announced the future of F is for Family. However, the writers are ready and willing to start of Season 5 when it has been renewed. Asked by a fan on Twitter whether Season 4 would be the final season, the F is For Family writers room said, "absolutely not," later adding, "Season 4 ends (like all of our seasons) with a cliffhanger, so the answer is we better get renewed!"

However, as of May, they did not know the status of the show. They said: "We won't know if we're not coming back till after the new season starts on Netflix. If they tell us well in advance that we're canceled then we can write a proper ending. But that's not the case. We intend to keep ongoing. It's up to [Netflix] to pick us up."

In a more recent tweet, when a fan asked what happened to Otto Holtenwasser (voiced by Trevor Devall) at the end of the current season, the writers replied: "He's fine. He just happened to be out when Sue called in episode 10. We promise you, he's in good health and will be right there if/when we get a Season 5."

Netflix is known to usually wait at least a month before renewing shows so they can look at 30 days worth of viewing data to base their decision on. This means that fans will not know if there will be another season of the show until later in the summer at the earliest.

Season 4 was renewed two months after Season 3, while Season 3 was renewed a month after Season 2, so fans may hear about F is For Family Season 5 by mid-July or August.

However, signs are good the show will be back. Apart from its success on the Netflix charts, the animation is one of the few genres of TV that is fairly lockdown-proof, with actors able to record their voices remotely and animators also able to work from home. Though Netflix has previously said they have enough originals to last until the end of 2020, it may be in their interest to ensure they have animated shows in production in case there is another spike in coronavirus cases in the fall which could potentially cause a second production shutdown.

As for when F is For Family Season 5 is likely to come out if it does get renewed, viewers could be in for a wait. The average wait between seasons of the show has been 18 months, meaning that the show is likely to come in December 2021 at the earliest.
