Fact Check: Was Chuck Norris at the Capitol Riot?

Rumors that iconic actor Chuck Norris was in attendance at the riots at Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. last Wednesday began circulating on Twitter early this week.

Many claimed to have seen the A Force of One actor, 80, taking part in the insurrection on January 6 with some photographs of a man pretending to be him doing the rounds on social media.

The Claim

A Twitter user went viral for posting a screengrab from the Instagram stories of a man at the riots that shows a man posing who is believed to be Norris.

"Wait, so are we just not going to mention the fact that Chuck Norris was at the MAGA insurrection?" asked the caption of the photo, which has been liked almost 30,000 times at the time of publishing.

Another Twitter user shared a photograph of the same man who looks like Norris with the caption: "Saw this on my Facebook today. Chuck Norris was in D.C. proudly supporting Maga and Trump."

The photograph shows a man bearing resemblance to Norris posing with two Donald Trump supporters, kitted out in Trump attire.

At first glance, the man bears a resemblance to the well-known martial artist, but many claimed he was merely an imitator who posed for photos with other rioters who just assumed they had met the real Chuck Norris.

Many Twitter users went on a deep-dive investigation into the mystery, comparing photos of the man photographed to recent ones of Norris.

The Facts

The actor's manager, Erik Kritzer, confirmed to Newsweek via email that Norris was not at the Capitol riot.

"This is not Chuck Norris and is a wanna be look-alike although Chuck is much more handsome," Kritzer said of the photos of the man who many believed to be The Delta Force star.

"Chuck remains on his ranch in Texas where he has been with his family."

Although Norris is a noted Republican, he has not spoken publicly about politics in recent years and his views on the riots remain unknown. He backed Trump in the 2016 presidential election against Hillary Clinton.

The Ruling

Newsweek confirmed that Chuck Norris was not at the Capitol Riot in Washington, D.C. on January 6. As confirmed by his manager, the actor was and remains in Texas with his family.

The man in the photographs is a lookalike.
