Fact Check: Is Emma Watson Retiring From Acting?

Emma Watson has been gracing the screen for two decades after rising to stardom for her role as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter film franchise.

Watson most recently starred as Belle in the 2017 Disney film Beauty and the Beast and as Meg March in the 2019 Oscar-nominated film Little Women.

Offscreen, Watson is a feminist activist and UN Woman Goodwill ambassador who launched the HeForShe gender equality campaign in 2014.

The Claim

The Daily Mail recently reported that the 30-year-old actress is stepping back from acting to spend time with her partner, Leo Robinton.

Watson was soon trending on Twitter, as fans claimed she was retiring from acting.

Watson last posted on Twitter in August 2020 and on Instagram in June 2020. Her Instagram bio reads: "Emma's official Instagram page is currently dormant and is not being updated."

Jason Weinberg, Watson's manager at United Entertainment, debunked the rumor.

"Emma's social media accounts are dormant but her career isn't," Weinberg told Entertainment Weekly. He then told Newsweek that the quote is accurate but had nothing to add.
