Family Urge Man To Surrender After Woman, Disabled Daughter Found Shot on Christmas Day

The family of a woman and disabled teenage girl who were found shot dead in their home on Christmas Day have urged a "person of interest" in the case to contact police.

The bodies of Elaine Fizer, 57, and 13-year-old Daunya Fields were found in their home on the 18000 block of Prevost Street in Detroit, Michigan, on Saturday afternoon.

Margaret Shively told WXYZ that she and her husband discovered the bodies of her mother and adopted sister inside the home after showing up for Christmas dinner.

"It will never be the same without my mama and Daunya," Shively told the station.

Police have not identified the victims, but named Fizer's husband, 62-year-old Dwayne McDonald, as a person of interest.

McDonald lived at the home with the victims, but he is not the father of the 13-year-old girl, Detroit Police Chief James White told reporters at a news conference.

White added that it was not clear if McDonald is a victim or a suspect, but said police are keen to speak with him in connection with the shooting.

"He needs to contact the police immediately because we're going to put all resources out to find him and they're already out and they're going to continue to look until we bring him into custody," White said.

The police department shared an image of McDonald on its social media accounts and said that he is thought to be driving a gray Buick Lucerne with Michigan license plate EKY 4074. "If anyone sees that vehicle, please notify the police immediately," White said.

Shively also urged McDonald to surrender to authorities. "Turn yourself in. Turn yourself in," she said.

According to WXYZ, Fizer had adopted Fields, who was non-verbal and confined to a wheelchair.

At the news conference, White said the victims were found after relatives expecting to have Christmas dinner with them showed up at the home having not been able to reach them all day.

They had "looked through the window because she wasn't answering the door and they could see an image of what appeared to be a body laying on the floor," he said. "And then they called the police. Her husband forced entry to the home, discovering her mom and her sister deceased."

The family has set up a GoFundMe page to raise funds to cover burial expenses.
