Is James Comey a Beyonce Fan? FBI Director Reveals He Sang Lyrics To 'Sandcastles' During Official Meeting

In what is arguably the most shocking admission to come from James Comey's book tour, the former FBI director revealed on Wednesday that he once briefly sang Beyonce's hit song "Sandcastles" during a department meeting.

Comey shared the anecdote in an interview that PBS NewsHour published on Tuesday. According to Comey, a counterintelligence briefing named "Sandcastles" was up for discussion during the official FBI briefing, and he immediately thought of the ballad.

"They always have weird code names," Comey told the news organization, referring to FBI briefs."It was 'Sandcastles,' and so I said 'Beyoncé!' And I was the only one in the room who had any idea what I was talking about. People were like 'What?' I said, 'We built sandcastles'…"

He continued, "Honest to God, I sung like that."

The track from Beyonce's album Lemonade is about a broken relationship. Had Comey continued his rendition on PBS, his next lines would have been "that washed away / I made you cry when I walked away / Every promise don't work out that way, oh, babe."

Comey also shared some of his other pop culture proclivities, including his support for Taylor Swift and Kendrick Lamar. He steers clear of the spy and CIA dramas The Americans and Homeland because he doesn't "need that stress," but loves This Is Us, a tearjerker on NBC.

The interview with PBS comes amid a roving media tour to promote Comey's book A Higher Loyalty. The book touches on Comey's childhood in New Jersey and his time as FBI director.

Released on April 17, the book has already become a best-seller and a headline grabber for its scathing rebuke of President Donald Trump's administration. Comey writes that Trump is a "serial liar" who is "morally unfit" to serve as president.

In response, the president has launched attacks at Comey via Twitter. The Republican National Committee has also debuted a website to discredit Comey.
