While a fire dog's first end-of-year review was mostly positive, the team he works with did address one concern that has left TikTok viewers in stitches.

Loki, the black Labrador fire dog, joined Hertfordshire Fire & Rescue in January 2022, filling some big paw prints after the retirement of Fire Investigation Dog Reqs, who worked with the team for over 11 years. Nikki Harvey was the handle for Reqs and now again for Loki.

But so far, based on his first-ever end-of-year review, which was shared to the TikTok account @hertfordshirefire on March 21, Loki is living up to the exceptional reputation Reqs left. Loki has thrived supporting the team of fire investigators to help establish the cause and origin of fires. He visited 50 fire scenes in the past year.

However, his love for tennis balls has raised alarm with the team, as a number of the balls have gone missing within the past year.

Loki fire dog gets review

...

The Hertfordshire Fire & Rescue team cannot say for certain that Loki is responsible for the missing tennis balls, but his face when it was addressed during his review also leads many to believe he is the culprit.

Loki wasn't accused quite yet, but they will be keeping an eye on him and the tennis balls. Otherwise, he has nothing but perfect remarks for his job.

"Loki has taken this all in his stride and it is apparent how much he enjoys his job," Zoe Crossan, community safety coordinator with the fire team, told Newsweek via email. "He is an absolute asset and a fantastic colleague to all in our Fire Service. You cannot help but fall in love with him once you have met him."

Loki went through search dog training to identify scents, as well as indication and environmental training, Crossan said. He can identify 12 ignitable liquids and still has ongoing training and annual licensing through the police.

Crossan added that Loki is one of just 15 fire investigation dogs in the U.K.

How Viewers Reacted

The hilarious TikTok video, which had over 550,000 views as of Monday, had viewers praising his work and cracking up at his reaction when his area of improvement was brought up.

"The way he looks away when you accuse him of tennis ball thefts," laughed one viewer. He perked up at the word while everything else was in one ear and out the other.

Another added: "I hope he's receiving fair pay, in line with his human peers." The team confirmed Loki receives naps, tennis balls, sausages and walks for his job well done.

A third user commented: "Love this! What an incredible baby! Such a little hero."
