Hernando County Brush Fire Threatens Homes in Florida

A growing brush fire threatened homes and structures on Florida’s west coast Friday afternoon. The 300-acre fire was burning in Hernando County, north of Tampa.

First responders including the Florida Forest Service, Withlacooche Forestry Center and Hernando County Fire Rescue were deployed to fight the flames, WFLA-TV reported.

The fire was located north of Centralia Road and east of U.S. Highway 19, according to Bay News 9.

It was unclear if anyone had yet been evacuated from the area. Residents were asked to stay away as firefighters worked at the scene.
