First 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Auctioned for $3.6M, Sets New Record

The rights to the first retail 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06, a 70th Anniversary special edition model, were auctioned for charity at the annual Barrett-Jackson Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona over the weekend. NASCAR race team owner Rick Hendrick placed the winning bid.

Operation Homefront will receive $3.6 million, the full gavel price, from the sale. This amount sets a record for a charity vehicle donated by a manufacturer, surpassing the previous record, held by the first retail 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, by $600,000.

The charity, a national nonprofit, is focused on building strong, stable and secure military families.

"We are deeply grateful to our friends at Chevrolet and Barrett-Jackson for choosing Operation Homefront as the beneficiary of this incredible auction," said Brig. Gen. (ret.) John I. Pray Jr., president and CEO of Operation Homefront. "The proceeds from the sale of this sensational Corvette Z06 will go a long way to helping us help our military families overcome their financial hardships and have the opportunity to thrive in the communities – our communities – they've worked so hard to protect."

Chevrolet has had a supporter of Operation Homefront since 2017. In addition to the proceeds from the auction and funding for services, the automaker has supplied Silverados for use at the organization's headquarters and regional offices.

"It's truly a privilege to support our military members and their families through Operation Homefront," said Steve Hill, Chevrolet vice president. "Proceeds from the first retail 2023 Corvette Z06 will benefit many U.S. military families across the country who have done so much to serve our country."

Retired Corvette Racing legend Oliver Gavin, who has five American Le Mans Series championships, five 24 Hours of Le Mans class wins, five 12 Hours of Sebring class wins and five Petit Le Mans class wins, drove the model onto the block.

The 2023 Corvette Z06 is powered by the highest horsepower naturally-aspirated V8 ever to make it to market in a production car. Production of the model is slated to begin later this year.
