Florence, SC Shooting: Multiple Police Officers Shot in South Carolina

Multiple police law enforcement officers were shot in an incident in Florence, South Carolina, on Wednesday, WPDE-TV reported. Three Florence County deputies and two Florence city officers were shot, according to the station.

It was not immediately clear what the officers' conditions were. The Florence County Sheriff's Office did not immediately respond to Newsweek's request for comment. The Florence County Police Department said it could not provide any further information at this time.

Florence County Emergency Management confirmed on Twitter there was an active shooter incident in progress at around 5:00 p.m. local time. The call came from Vintage Place off of Hoffmeyer Road, FCEMD said. At 6:03 p.m., FCEMD confirmed the active shooter situation was over and that a suspect was in custody.

"We are asking everyone to stay away from Vintage Place as there is still an active crime investigation in process," FCEMD said.

South Carolina Senator Tim Scott extended his prayers on Twitter for the injured officers and his family, as did South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster.

"This is simply devastating news from Florence," McMaster wrote. "The selfless acts of bravery from the men and women in law enforcement is real, just like the power of prayer is real. Peggy and I ask that you pray for them, pray for their recovery, pray for their families, and pray for all of Florence."

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
