Florida Man Puts Landlord, 70, in Headlock, Scratches His Face After Being Told He Takes Too Many Showers

A 48-year-old Florida man was arrested this week after admitting to placing a 70-year-old in a headlock during an argument about showering habits, police say.

Byron Christianoudis, of New Port Richey, was detained on Tuesday by deputies from the Pasco County Sheriff's Office (PCSO) after the attack on his roommate, who was not named. A police report obtained by The Miami Herald said the suspect had been renting at the residence.

According to the police, tensions inside the home spiked after Christianoudis was told by his roommate—also his landlord—that he could not shower because "he took too many."

After a verbal argument broke out regarding the bathroom situation, Christianoudis allegedly put the 70-year-old man in a headlock and scratched his face with his nails, leaving cuts.

The suspect admitted the physical attack to deputies who were called to the scene, but claimed he did so because he felt threatened and had been defending himself, Fox 13 reported.

Inmate records posted by the sheriff's office confirmed he was arrested shortly after 8 p.m. on Tuesday and released just before 10 p.m. the next day. Christianoudis was charged with battery on a person 65 years of age or older—a state felony—and taken to jail on $2,500 bond.

According to Shorstein, Lasnetski, & Gihon, a criminal justice firm in Jacksonville, the charge against Christianoudis carries a potential sentence of up to five years in prison, if convicted.

The New York Post reported that the suspect has a criminal history in Florida, citing an arrest report from 2015 obtained and published by The Smoking Gun. At the time, Christianoudis was booked into jail on $250 bond after being accused of masturbating on a public beach.

The arrest report elaborated: "It appeared the defendant was watching an adult female and a minor female child walking down by the waters edge. The defendant made a spontaneous statement and apologized for his actions." Christianoudis was charged with lewd and lascivious behavior and he allegedly told Indian Shores police: "My girlfriend was out of town and I miss her."

Earlier this week in Florida, a man who attacked Orange County police officers with a bar stool was shot dead at the scene. In St. Augustine, a 37-year-old suspect was detained after allegedly attacking a Taco Bell employee during an argument at the drive-thru. And in Jacksonville, a man in his 30s was arrested after fighting an elderly man in a U.S. Postal Service parking lot.
