A Florida man was arrested after allegedly causing $1,500 of damage to a vending machine at the motel he was staying at after it dispensed the wrong kind of soda.

According to police, Cory Layne, 33, was staying at an Economy Motor Lodge motel in Dundee, Florida, when the arrest occurred on April 25.

Upon arrival, a motel guest told Polk County Sheriff's deputies that he saw Layne inserting money into the machine. When the machine dispensed the wrong drink, the witness said he saw Layne attempt to get his money back.

"Corey was staying at a Dundee motel when he thirsted for a nice refreshing beverage," police said in a May 16 Facebook post. "He went to the Coca-Cola vending machine to purchase a refreshment, but the machine dispensed the wrong kind. Corey was displeased."

Common vending machine problems include not being able to take money, drop products, or open after the product has dropped.

In the probable cause affidavit obtained by Newsweek, police said Layne became angry and started repeatedly punching the machine, resulting in a hole. After he was unable to get his money, the witness claimed Layne left the premises.

"Fortunately, the soda machine smackdown was witnessed, and a deputy was summoned to the scene," the post read.

The following day, the manager of the motel told police she would like to press charges. She also told police that she recognized Layne from previous incidents.

Deputies were able to locate Layne in a wooded area behind a Winn-Dixie grocery store in town.

After Layne was read his Miranda rights, he admitted to punching the machine because it did not give him his money back after trying to get a soda, according to police.

"Layne advised he has anger issues and was angry when he didn't get his money. Layne advised it was better to hit a machine than hit a person," the affidavit read. "Cory advised he would pay for the machine if they would let him."

Layne was placed under arrest for felony criminal mischief and was transported to the Polk County Jail without incident.
