Polk County police in Florida reported the arrest of a 43-year old man who they said was fleeing from officers, nearly hit a patrol car and swallowed a bag of meth.

According to a police department press release, deputies tried to stop Darrell Bailey's Dodge Ram truck on Wednesday in Mulberry, Florida. Bailey had a warrant out for his arrest for failing to register as a sex offender, on two separate counts.

"After deputies activated their lights and sirens, Bailey made a U-turn, drove through the parking lot, and headed west on Shepherd Road," the release said. "Near the intersection of County Line Road, a deputy attempted a P.I.T. (Precision Immobilization Technique) Maneuver on the Dodge, causing it to spin."

After the maneuver, Bailey was able to regain control of his car, and as he continued to flee, he nearly hit an occupied police car, as well as driving over a fence and hitting in a shed, police said.

Speaking to Newsweek, the police department's public information officer, Brian Bruchey, said Bailey told the deputies that he was "just trying to dodge" the patrol car that he nearly hit.

After Bailey struck the shed, he came to a stop, at which point deputies apprehended him. According to the release, Bailey admitted he fled from the deputies because he "thought he had warrants out for his arrest and had methamphetamine on him." To get rid of the meth, Bailey decided to swallow it, he said.

Following his arrest, Polk County Police Sheriff Grady Judd released a statement calling the entire incident "an epic fail."

"He had a warrant for failing to register as a sex offender, he failed to stop for deputies, he failed at getting away—he made a lot of choices today, but failed several times with those choices. We're extremely grateful, though, that he failed to hit our deputy with his truck," Judd said.

The police department posted Bailey's mugshot on Facebook with a caption that read: "The good news is that we caught him, and no deputies were hurt. The bad news is...well, there is none. Unless you're Darrell."
