Florida Mother Stabs Daughter, 11, and Drove Body To Hospital: 'Became Combative and Produced a Knife'

A mother in Florida has been charged with murder over the stabbing of her 11-year-old daughter, according to officials.

Rosa Alcides Rivera arrived at the valet station of Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women and Babies in Orlando, Florida, on Sunday at around 10:51am. Her dead 11-year-old daughter Aleyda Rivera was in the vehicle, Orange County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.

The 28-year-old demanded someone at the facility at 83 W. Miller Street assist her daughter, Fox35 reported citing police.

After assessing Aleyda, medics concluded she had died of multiple stab wounds, and security personnel called the authorities, Orange County Sheriff's Office told the Orlando Sentinel.

Lt. Diego Toruno, a spokesperson for Orange County Sheriff's Office, told ABC affiliate WFTV9: "Security advised a white female drove up to the valet area [and] was argumentative and asking for medical assistance for a female passenger.

"Hospital staff determined [the passenger] was deceased."

Toruno told the Orlando Sentinel that Rivera then "became combative and produced a knife."

Orange County Sheriff's Office homicide detectives arrested Rosa at Winnie Palmer Hospital.

As police escorted a wide-eyed Rosa from the Sheriff Office into a police cruiser, she was filmed by WFTVas saying: "I thought I was going to jail."

Police charged her with first degree murder without bail, Orange County jail records show.

Rosa stabbed Aleyda to death days before she was due to turn 12, Fox 35 reported.

It remains unclear what lead to the child being stabbed and when or where the incident occurred. A police investigation into the stabbing is ongoing, as officials attempt to understand the cause. Orange County deputies told Fox 35 the stabbing happened in their jurisdiction, but did not reveal where.

Footage shot by Fox 35 showed the entrance of the hospital covered in police tape, as it was treated as a crime scene. The hospital was locked down until midday, Click Orlando reported.

While the main entrance to the hospital was closed, staff were forced to divert patients arriving at the hospital to give birth, Fox 35 reported.

Forensic and medical investigators combed Rosa's car for clues, and a blue cover concealed the entrance from members of the public, Click Orlando reported.
