Former UFC Star Kicked out of Gym for Refusing Mask: 'Wake Up, You Sheep'

In a video posted to his Instagram account, former UFC fighter Stephan Bonnar documented being asked to leave his gym after refusing to wear his mask correctly.

"Been coming to this gym fourteen years," the maskless Bonnar says, gesturing to a small group of gym-goers behind him. "Getting kicked out on my birthday 'cause one of these sheep were complaining that my mask was dropping."

He continues, "Well, guess what, sheep. I got a medical exemption." He holds what appears to be an inhaler in his hand. "I have asthma."

"I'm doing you a favor by even playing pretend," he says. "Masks don't do anything. Wake up, you sheep."

As he walks out of the gym, he calls his fellow gym-goers "tattletales" and "cowards" for complaining about how he wore his mask.

In the video's caption, Bonnar goes on to compare his experience in the gym to the plight of Jesus. Posted on Easter, Bonnar notes that the holiday "is a good reminder how Christ, despite being a cool dude, was pretty maligned."

He also shares a childhood experience, in which he was "kicked out" of a playhouse on his 10th birthday for "being too tall."

"Here I am 34 years later getting thrown out of the gym for exercising my right to breathe clean air."

"That's consistency!" he adds.

Comments on Bonnar's video reflect a divided audience.

Many, for example, took issue with the former fighter's claim of a "medical exemption."

"No such thing as a medical exemption. Grow up," wrote one user.

"The air isn't clean. Masks work. Relax champ, no need for all that," added another.

Others came to his defense, denouncing the gym for kicking him out.

"Good riddance to that den of tattletales," said one commenter.

According to The Daily Dot, Bonnar—nicknamed "The American Psycho"—is most famous for his performance in The Ultimate Fighter 1, in which he was runner-up to Forrest Griffin. He now works as a pro-wrestler.

It is also reported that Bonnar is vocally right-wing. He is said to have referred to the shutdown of the right-wing app Parler as "commie BS."

Only a few weeks ago, Bonnar made headlines after filing a lawsuit against Las Vegas water company Real Water. After drinking the water, he and others reportedly became seriously ill. Bonnar suffered liver failure and was hospitalized for five days.
