'Fortnite' and 'Avengers: Infinity War' Mashup: Thanos Added for Limited Time

Thanos is coming to Fortnite starting tomorrow, May 8. This information comes by way of Entertainment Weekly and a tweet from the official Fortnite Twitter account.

The "Infinity Gauntlet Limited Time Mashup" is a new mode for Fortnite Battle Royale that plays very similarly to other battle royale game modes. There still are up to 100 players in a map all fighting to be the last person (or team) standing. The key difference is the addition of the Infinity Gauntlet as a weapon. The player that finds the Infinity Gauntlet and grabs it will transform into Thanos himself to wreak havoc on the rest of the competition.

Avengers directors Joe and Anthony Russo say they wanted Thanos in the game because they are big fans of Fortnite. "Over the past few months, while we were editing Infinity War, we'd take breaks to hop on and get in a few games," Joe told Entertainment Weekly. "And then we started thinking, how cool would it be to have some kind of Avengers Fortnite mashup? So we stalked Donald [Mustard, worldwide creative director at Epic Games]."

"Out of the blue, I get this call from Joe. And after a bit of geeking out over each other's work, we start brainstorming these crazy ideas," Mustard said. "It was really important that whatever we did, it had to be super authentic to both Fortnite and Avengers: Infinity War, and something that fans of both would be excited about. About an hour later, we had the bones of this awesome idea for a limited time gameplay mode, and almost immediately our team got started."

The "Infinity Gauntlet Limited Time Mashup" mode begins May 8 on PC, PS4, Xbox One and iOS versions of Fortnite . There is no announced end time, but the mode isn't going to stick around forever.
