‘Fortnite’ Leak Suggests a Comet or Meteor May Hit Tilted Towers Soon

Fortnite fans have had a mixed relationship with Tilted Towers since it was added to the Battle Royale map in January, and it looks like Epic Games may be setting up to obliterate the whole area with a comet. A theory devised by reddit’s Tactical_Peperoni was possibly proven by a data mine from IronRectangle. The point is, there’s likely something meteoric being cooked up for a later date.

The theory itself revolves around the brightening blue light surrounding Tilted Towers and the addition of nearby telescopes in update 3.4. The implication being, of course, that Epic will ask Fortnite fans to look at something in the sky in the very near future.

This passing thought was very much conjecture until IronRectangle posted the following images Friday evening. The first one, named in the files as “SM_Comet_Center,” is a large egg shape with a horizontal line at its alleged point of impact. This new asset was followed by “SM_Comet_Phase 2,” which shows a far more detailed animation pattern for that egg-shaped object to follow. Assuming these files are genuine, the talk of a comet in Fortnite has suddenly become far more than speculation.

The question that remains, however, is how, or even if, these recently uncovered files will be used. With both Easter Sunday and April Fools’ Day happening tomorrow, might Epic surprise fans by having an egg-like comet crash into the most divisive spot on the map? That seems like the most plausible idea in discussion right now. On the other hand, it’s equally possible that Epic is aware of the comet theories and purposefully made these files as a troll, knowing that an eager fan would find them. In other words, maybe the files themselves are the joke.

Comet in the sky CONFIRMED in source files

Whatever the case may be, the prospect of a comet or meteor disrupting the Battle Royale map is certainly interesting. If it does actually happen, there’s no telling how it might impact gameplay for the foreseeable future. Will Tilted Towers become a massive crater, and how long will it stay that way? Epic has an established history of changing and expanding Fortnite’s Battle Royale map in interesting ways, but this proposed concept might be the most explosive one yet.

Fortnite is in early access across PS4, Xbox One, PC and iOS.
