‘Fortnite’ Leak Says Season 5 May Have Portal to Wild West

Fortnite ’s Rocket launch brought a mysterious portal to the center of Lonely Lodge, giving great credibility to recent leaks from @FNBRLeaks and @GameCentralFBR. It looks like Fortnite Season 5 may feature locations based on the Wild West and other historical time periods.

The most obvious evidence for Wild West material includes datamined assets like a quaint roasting fire, a west-inspired doorframe and the kind of card table one might expect to find in a dusty, old saloon. Especially given the portal sitting outside the lodge right now, it’s not too crazy to think the area could be progressively transformed into something straight out of Westworld as the rift continues to expand.

This concept becomes even more plausible when considering moments from the recently released Playground Mode trailer. Character models can be seen wearing cowboy hats, and there’s also a quick shot of a pyramid that might have a place in ancient Egypt. With that in mind, it’s possible a few of the named locations we know will soon take us back to different eras.

Beyond history, additional leaks emerged this afternoon showing data strings that reference a strip mall and bookstore named McGuffin’s. We’re not sure if this is something that will be built over Dusty Divot or if it might attach itself to a more developed locale like Tilted Towers, but the assets strongly suggest we’ll see something like it in the future.

As with all leaks, it’s important to remember all analysis of these unfinished files should be taken with a grain of salt. Just because we see a few assets that appear to have a western theme, for example, that doesn’t guarantee the bulk of Fortnite Season 5 will revolve around that small collection of items. These datamined files exist and are being worked on by developers at Epic, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll make their way into the final game.

Fortnite ’s Rocket launched right on schedule this afternoon, and it created a huge crack in the in-game sky before crashing down onto Anarchy Acres. The portal outside Lonely Lodge was discovered about an hour later and has not been explained. That being said, we wrote a few theories about what these new developments mean. Regardless of if this leaks point to the truth or not, we’ve never been more curious to know what Fortnite Season 5 is all about.

Fortnite is in early access across PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PC and iOS. Season 5 is expected to begin July 12 at 4 a.m. EDT.
