'Fortnite' Season 6 Teaser Hints at Wild West Skins or Map Changes

Fortnite Season 6 teases continue ahead of its Sept. 27 launch, and the latest tells fans to "saddle up" for potential map changes or skins. As seen below, the image features a cowgirl with a bull-icon hat and face mask. The Rift lightning seen throughout the back half of Season 5 is on show here as well.

While the wild west imagery is pretty overt in this case, it's difficult to discern what this teaser might mean with regard to what we actually see on Thursday. Using Season 5's launch as a reference, Epic's past teasers have typically revealed skin designs or smaller points of interest on the Battle Royale map. At the beginning of July, Epic posted a picture of a Norse ax. That design reappeared in the Ragnarok skin and alluded to the addition of the fan-named Viking Village. If that pattern holds true, it's possible the Fortnite Season 6 Battle Pass will feature a cowgirl skin, and there may be a smaller spot on the map that has a Westworld-inspired aesthetic.

This theme will not be a universal one across Fortnite Season 6. A teaser posted Monday morning focused on a robotic llama testing its DJ skills on a turntable. That image alone could not be further away from a western-inspired design.

At the very least, Fortnite Season 6 seems poised to continue the game's tradition of capitalizing on pop culture trends. With mere weeks to go until the launch of Red Dead Redemption 2, gamers are hungry for Old West-inspired action anywhere they can get it. Chatter about cowboys and cowgirls is about to hit an all-time high in the games industry, and Fortnite just made itself part of that conversation.

Fortnite data miners had previously speculated about a wild west theme heading into Season 5. While that never came to pass, it's possible Epic saw the reaction and leveraged it to create parts of Season 6. This theme has been demanded by fans for a while now, and it looks like we'll finally see some version of it.

Fortnite is available now on PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PC and mobile. The Season 6 Battle Pass goes live Sept. 27 at 8 a.m. EDT.
