Given how substantial Fortnite's last few Season 8 updates have been, it's about time we got one that was a bit less content-rich than the others. The main feature for this week's patch is, of course, the Shadow Bomb. It has a familiar feature set reminiscent of the controversial Shadow Stones that made their debut back in Season 6. The major difference this time around, though, is that Shadow Bombs are a limited, lootable item rather than something that can be found at clearly defined spots around the map. It took Epic a long time to get the Shadow Stones balanced, so hopefully its new relative doesn't face the same issues.

Beyond the addition of that single item, there's not too much to discuss. With the start of the Volcano event Wednesday afternoon, it's clear that Fortnite Season 8 is nearing its end. As such, Epic has likely already diverted lots of development resources toward preparing the inevitable 9.0 update. We don't know much about it, but leaks suggest Tilted Towers and Retail Row may be replaced by new points of interest.

Fortnite is available now on PS4, Xbox One, Switch, PC and mobile.
