Four Arrested in String of Burglaries Targeting Rihanna and Other LA-area Celebrities

Four people have been arrested in connection with a string of burglaries targeting the homes of celebrities and athletes across Los Angeles, including singer Rihanna and Rams wide receiver Robert Woods.

The suspects are believed to be part of a wider ring of criminals that have stolen millions of dollars' worth of items from the homes of more than two dozen celebrities, said Lillian Carranza, commanding officer of the Los Angeles police's Commercial Crimes Division, at a press conference.

Carranza said the suspects targeted their victims based on their social media postings or their touring or travel schedules. Before breaking into the property, the suspects would drive down affluent L.A. streets in suitable clothing while scouting the homes of known celebrities and athletes for potential targets, Carranza said.

"The suspects referred to 'flocking,' as they flock like birds to areas where the rich and famous resided," she said.

Once a potential target home was selected, the suspects would use a larger vehicle in order to change their outfits and cart away the stolen goods.

On September 27, three males ransacked the home of Woods, who was away at the time playing against the Minnesota Vikings. As they fled the scene in a waiting vehicle, a neighbor notified police.

A short while later, the suspects' vehicle was stopped by police in South Los Angeles for an unrelated incident. All three men—Tyress Williams and Jshawne Daniels, both 19, and Damaji Hall, 18—were arrested after an officer spotted a firearm and what appeared to be stolen items inside the car.

Police later identified the property found inside the vehicle as belonging to Woods. Detectives then linked the suspects to other burglaries at the homes of Los Angeles Dodger Yasiel Puig, as well as singers Rihanna and Christina Milian.

During the investigation, a list containing more than a dozen other potential targets was recovered during the investigation, including Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James and actors Viola Davis and Matt Damon.

Hall's mother, 34-year-old Ashle Hall, was later arrested on suspicion of being involved in the criminal ring.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office said that Williams has since been charged with four felony counts of first-degree residential burglary in connection with burglaries at the homes of Rhianna, Puig, Woods and singer Matthieu Tota. Williams faces a maximum 10-year prison sentence if convicted.

The other three suspects have not yet been charged, pending further investigation.
