Fox News Host Defends Trump Over Iran, Says Bush 'Defeated Iraq in About 43 Minutes. We Can Do The Same With Iran'

Right-wing talk show host Mark Levin predicted that President Donald Trump launching a war against Iran would result in an easy victory, claiming Americans would win in "54 minutes," because former President George W. Bush "defeated Iraq in about 43 minutes."

Levin made the remarks on the Wednesday edition of his show LevinTV, which streams on conservative platform BlazeTV. He claimed that Trump was a man of "peace" while stressing that an easy victory would be the outcome of a war with Iran, due in part to the teachings of Bush.

"The Iranians have been at war with us for over four decades," Levin claimed. "But if we wanted to go to war, we know how to go to war. George W. Bush showed us. He sent 400,000 troops in and he defeated Iraq in about 43 minutes. We can do the same with Iran. Maybe it would take 54 minutes."

The U.S. invaded Iraq in March 2003 and a little more than a month later, Bush was famously seen to claim victory in a speech given on an aircraft carrier bearing a banner that read "mission accomplished." However, the notion that the war ended with a swift Iraqi defeat was widely considered erroneous because American military combat continued in the country for many years.

Levin's prediction was part of a monologue about the "Trump Doctrine," which he suggested was based on defending Americans and making peace with adversaries by launching military strikes like the one that killed Iranian General Qassem Soleimani on Friday.

"The Trump Doctrine's not about going to war," said Levin. "Trump's not Obama and he's not Bush. He's not an appeaser or worse, and he's not an interventionist who wants to create states and create Jeffersonian democracy. He doesn't want to build up states. He wants to defend Americans' national security interests and defend Americans. That's why he attacked Soleimani after they attacked our embassy."

Although he said Trump was moving military assets to the region in preparation for potential strikes against Iran, Levin insisted that combat ordered by Trump might not amount to war.

"He specifically said I'm not seeking war, I'm seeking peace," Levin said. "He's moved additional troops into the area, additional bombers into the area, F-35s into the area, more of them. Not because he wants war, but because if they hit us, he wants to hit them back. That's not war, necessarily."

Trump was favorably compared to former President Ronald Reagan by Levin, who worked in the Reagan administration early in his career. He claimed the current president represented a throwback to Reagan's mindset.

"The fact of the matter is the Trump Doctrine is not the Bush Doctrine or the Obama Doctrine. It's sort of the Reagan Doctrine with certain twists and certain distinctions," said Levin. "I think Trump in many of the same ways has the same ideology in that respect... same mindset, same thought process."

Levin went on to emphasize that he believes the president displays sound, reasoned and measured judgement. He described Trump as "prudential," which he claimed was a word an unspecified "they" don't want people to use in reference to the president.

Levin has been a staunch supporter of Trump in recent times. However, he had previously labelled himself "Never Trump" before the 2016 Republican nomination was decided, later saying he would vote for Trump on the condition that he would not "take responsibility for the dumb things he says or the dumb things his surrogates say."

In addition to his BlazeTV program, Levin hosts a talk radio show and the Fox News show Life, Liberty & Levin.
