Fox News' Jeanine Pirro Urges Donald Trump to Continue Border Wall Shutdown: 'This is Your Moment in History'

Fox News personality Jeanine Pirro directly urged President Donald Trump to keep up his fight over his long-promised border wall by playing up the historical importance of the moment.

Delivering an extended monologue of sorts on Fox, Pirro—an ally of Trump—urged the president to not give in, even as the government has been shut down over Trump's demands for funding for his wall.

She opened her show with comments urging Trump to fight for the wall, while being sure to pepper in compliment after compliment.

Pirro said:

"I would like to direct my open to the president of the United States. Mr. President, I understand the pressure that you are under from every side. But the wall at our southern border is a promise that you made, ran on, got elected on, and must keep. But more than that, it is your legacy. And you cannot allow them to force you to compromise. So here we are, days before the Christmas holiday, and you are facing the most important issues that Americans elected you to confront: Your promise to build the wall. Now, there has never been a president more dedicated to fulfilling a campaign promise than you. Unlike just about every other president in recent memory, you say what you mean, and you mean what you say. That is why your base is so loyal to you and continues to grow. You have done what no other president that has had the fortitude to do. The wall is no different. And you must fulfill this fundamental promise to the American people. You cannot buckle."

Pirro continued by saying Democrats are "callously salivating at the prospect of your collapse." Later, in the long, extended monologue, Pirro added that "their hatred of you, Mr. President, is so intense and so vindictive that they would rather destroy you and America than destroy the drug cartels, gang members and human traffickers coming over our border."

Later, Pirro came to a conclusion after what was effectively an 8-minute pep speech for Trump, who was reported this weekend to be watching increasing quantities of television as he becomes more isolated.

"I am pleading with you on behalf of the American people who believe with every fiber of their being that if anyone can get it done, you are the one who can and will," she said. "This is your moment in history. Just do it. Thank you, Mr. President."

Pirro has been a close ally of Trump, even appearing alongside him at rallies. What she says to the president appears to have a real effect. Outgoing Chief of Staff John Kelly, for instance, once reportedly said in a meeting that Pirro was "inflaming an already vexed" Trump.

Trump forced the a partial shutdown of the government over the wall—something he promised Mexico would pay for on the campaign trail—by declaring he would not sign a stop-gap spending bill unless it included money for the wall. Things could become even more difficult for Trump moving forward, considering Democrats took back control of the House of Representatives in the 2018 midterm elections.

Trump's incoming acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney has said the shutdown could extend into next year when the new Congress is a reality.

"It's very possible that this shutdown will go beyond the 28th and into the new Congress," he said on Fox News.
