Fox's Lou Dobbs Condemns Barr One Day After He Praised Him for Doing the 'Lord's Work,' Says He 'Doesn't Get' What Trump's Been Through

Fox Business host Lou Dobbs said Attorney General Bill Barr didn't understand what President Donald Trump has been through on his television program Thursday night.

Dobbs' comments seemed to take a sharp turn from the opinion he held of Barr on Wednesday when he claimed the attorney general was "doing the Lord's work."

Dobbs, a vocal supporter of Trump, may have changed his mind after hearing Barr's statements that he wished the president wouldn't tweet about cases the Department of Justice is involved with.

"To have public statements made about the department or the people in the department, our men and women here, about cases pending in the department and about judges before whom we have cases," Barr said, "make it impossible for me to do my job and to assure the courts and the prosecutors within the department that we're doing our work with integrity."

"I cannot do my job here at the department with a constant background commentary that undercuts me," Barr added.

Dobbs has been a proponent of the conspiracy theory that there is a faction within the U.S. Government known as the Deep State, which some people believe have attempted to wrest power away from President Trump. Those who subscribe to the Deep State theory believe it intentionally skewed an investigation into the alleged interference by Russia in the 2016 elections.

Barr appointed Connecticut U.S. Attorney John H. Durham to conduct an investigation into the origins of the initial probe, which could uncover members of the intelligence committee who dispersed information about the alleged election meddling inappropriately.

"They are crooked, they are rotten and I don't believe for a minute that we've identified half of them," Dobbs said about those people who may be subjects of Durham's current investigation.

"The problem is immense and Bill Barr is doing the Lord's work as well as that of this great republic," Dobbs added.

After the Barr interview aired on ABC News on Thursday, Dobbs expressed his displeasure with Barr and his performance at the DOJ.

"I guess I am so disappointed in Bill Barr," Dobbs said Thursday. "I have to say this—it's a damn shame when he doesn't get what this president has gone through, and what the American people have gone through and what his charge is as attorney general."

Dobbs wondered where the charges were against the members of the Deep State within both the DOJ and the FBI.

"And why the hell aren't we hearing apologies from someone in that rancid, corrupt department about what they permitted?" Dobbs asked. "Because they had to have enablers by the dozens to pull off what they did."

"But then to hear this attorney general complain about this president, who is fighting every one of those damn people to do the right thing and get this country straightened out and it's mission to do so, not to carp about his boss," Dobbs continued.

Newsweek reached out to Fox Business for comment but did not receive a response in time for publication.

Barr has come under fire for suggesting a sentence reduction for former Trump adviser Roger Stone, who was convicted on charges related to the alleged interference with Trump's 2016 campaign. Four federal prosecutors withdrew themselves from Stone's case after the DOJ said the initial sentence of seven to nine years in prison "would not be appropriate."

Barr said on Thursday that suggestions that the DOJ recommended reducing Stone's sentence were unfounded and that he had made the decision before Trump tweeted his displeasure with the length of the proposed jail term.

"I'm happy to say that, in fact, the president has never asked me to do anything in a criminal case," Barr said.
